I just found out that my nikon d80 is not capable of the auto focus using a macro lens 105mm. Is this a big deal, should I go with a different macro lens or do most people use manual focus while taking macro shots?
The 105 is a beautiful lens. I have one in my Camera kit all the time, it is an Old AIs lens, not auto focus, don't need it the subjects that you would use a Macro lens for don't move that much and manual focus will give you the best control over the situation that needs photographing.
Good Luck and enjoy
